When you buy this product, you are supporting local wood craftsmen earn a more dignified life and also becoming a part of a movement to revive dying craft forms in India. We think that's definitely a meaningful purchase! These crafts are also eco-friendly since they are finished with lac - a natural, non-toxic resin secreted by microscopic tiny insects on tree bark. Lac is an organic non-toxic finish which is not chemically treated. This makes it perfectly safe for the artisans who are not exposed to any occupational hazards, and for you - the user. Aatike only uses natural dyes that are blended with lac for colouring the products. Any wood waste generated (wood chips, wood dust etc) is used as raw material for the incense stick industry in Channapatna and surrounding areas.
