Naturally Grown Sticky Purple Rice, 500g
The Product
Sticky rice is a staple cereal grain in many Asian countries and is said to have a large number of health benefits including high levels of protein, as well as roughly 170 calories per cup of cooked rice. The rice grains themselves are uniquely opaque, and they take on a very sticky consistency when cooked. This makes the rice very popular as sushi rice and for other dishes that are traditionally eaten with chopsticks! You can now add this magical rice to your diet and enjoy the goodness of whole grains grown naturally in the HImalaya. Use it in biryanis or pulao or simply swap your regular polished rice with it. With a nutty, toothsome bite, it is sure to add some character to your meal.

Your Impact
Give your meal a tasty makeover with this highly nutritious, gorgeous Purple Rice! By supporting Umang , you're backing an organisation focused on improving the lives and livelihoods of marginalised farming communities negatively impacted by the degradation of fragile ecosystems in the Himalaya. The establishment of on-farm and off-farm pro-poor business ventures run primarily by hill women of the Kumaon region, is helping to improve food security, economic security, and check out-migration in the region. The primary shareholders of Umang are members of Self Help Groups located in over 200 tiny hamlets spread across the Gagas and Kosi river basins. These SHGs form the bedrock of livelihood development and sustainable change in the region. By supporting Umang, you too become a part of the movement to improve the economy and ecology of the Himalayan community.
Why We Like It
This sticky purple rice makes a mean salad and when cooked with coconut milk, yields a gooey fudge that we cannot resist! We also love that Umang is run by a woman-only unit where women from the local Himalayan community are employed and trained in order to build their capacity and better their chances of employability.
Serene Says
If you want to go for something nutrtitious and healthy, switching the rice you use is a great solution! This purple rice is not just beautiful to look at, it is highly nutritious and tasty. Use this whole rice instead of regular polished rice or eat it in a salad with veggies and nuts.
