Why We Like It

Originating from Persia, Bidri is the art of inlaying silver or gold on black metal. This prominent handicraft form had gained prominence in India but today the art is slowly dying. The technique involves four steps-melting the alloy, casting the article, engraving and inlaying the design and finally, oxidizing. Though, the major motifs are influenced by Mughal motifs; Geometrical and floral patterns also included in the motifs. Studio Bidri, established in November 2014 originates from the village of Bidar in Northern Karnataka. It aims at reviving this handicraft form and provide a platform for artisans who practice this art.
